Beginning Stages

For this set of exercises, we were introduced to Adobe After Effects and started to learn the basics behind keyframes, effects, and audio files. During this introduction, we were challenged to create compositions that displayed a strong sense of contrast, depth & space and, finally, introduce audio to our compositions.

In the first video composition, I explored the strong contrast between two factors; the two terms I explored here were the significant contrast between "big" and "small."

Within this second composition, I created a composition that played with the idea of depth and space. After learning a bit more about After Effects, I applied a repeater to the shape layer and created this simple but powerful piece.

Finally, for this composition set, I created a very short film using the knowledge I had obtained through previous exercises. Here, I introduced the usage of audio files and learned their importance in creating a sense of rhythm.

Contrasting Words

For our second project, we were tasked to choose two contrasting words and create a composition that displays the feelings associated with said selected words. I chose the words "follow" and "lead" for this assignment and proceeded to play with the motion of the type. Here, I wanted to portray the words as if they were alive and had their own little lives.

Postage Stamp

For our third project, the class was tasked with selecting an existing postage stamp and isolating the elements to create a gradual build-up to the final piece. I learned the importance of revealing certain details throughout the composition to tell a story here. The most important skill I gained from this project was maneuvering a one-node camera throughout my elements.
